Gopi is the Artistic Director of Sounds of Kathak dance school.
She is a performer and choreographer who has over 20 years of teaching experience.

Artist BiographY

Gopi is a disciple of Antonia Minnecola. With her Guru’s support and blessings, she has been able to devote her life to preserving and spreading this classical art form.

Her other dance trainings include: Jazz, Ballet, and Bharatnatyam. She has also studied Hindustani classical vocal and is a certified yoga instructor.

She has performed with esteemed dance companies and at shows such as: Ballet Afsaneh - Encounters: A New Moon on the Silk Road, Festival Opera of Walnut Creek - River of Light, The Choreographer’s Showcase, Dance Theatre 7, An Evening of Tradition, A Glimpse of Krishna, and Dreaming and Drumming, under the direction of and choreography by her Guru, Antonia Minnecola.

As a solo Kathak performer, Gopi has choreographed dances and performed at numerous shows and events including: MidSummer Arts Festival - Stern Grove - SF, Katmandu Festival, UC San Diego's 19th Annual Performance Art Series, Bengali National Convention, STEP - Dance Organization at Santa Clara University, Festival of Lights - Great America, FIA - India’s Independence Day Celebration, India Republic Day, Glimpse of India - SJSU, City of Fremont Recreation Services, Aghor Ashram - Sonoma , Presentations at Schools(Capri, Hillbrook, Hopkin’s Jr. High, Village), Friends of Ayurveda Conference, Ayurveda - NAMA, Zingaris, Women’s Night, and An Evening of Classical Music and Dance.

For her students, she has choreographed and presented the following shows: A Glimpse of Krishna, A Night of Kathak Dance, and several Open House Performances in the Bay Area.

In addition, she has choreographed dances and presented her students at sponsored events such as: GCA Dance Competition, Kathmandu Festival, Shirdi Sai Parivaar, Pleasanton Fair, Yoga Studio Presentation, Brahma Kumaris’ Diwali Festival, School Cultural shows, Boy Scouts Event, and A Benefit concert – Dancing for Paradise, CA.

Moreover, she has used her talent in Kathak to give back to her community by contributing to many non-profit organizations, such as: the non-profit Developing Indigenous Resources, the Fremont Education Foundation, Shadhika Mela for women, Indo-American Charity Ball for Tri-City Homeless Coalition, and Fundraiser for Bhopal. Gopi has been preserving this dance form by sharing it with the younger generation, holding classes and workshops in Fremont.
